Re: Petition to Legalise R18
For what it is worth, the government has not staked everything on a particular position - for or against - re porn. If anything it is being pragmatic, same as for late night drinking, gambling and so on. There is a genuine case that current laws feed organised crime and undermine age controls. Do ...

Re: Petition to Legalise R18
Thanks Magoo, I know it is Gordon, but "C'mon Tony" just sounded better. I'd prefer not to analyse why. Thanks again to everyone who has signed up. The petition calls for sensible even handed rules, while allowing the government moral justification, so it has some chance of being taken seriously ...

Re: Petition to Legalise R18
At the moment it's perfectly legal to buy Evil Dead - Chainsaw Edition at the supermarket, or Hostel. Or Execution, which depicts genuine judicial executions. And supermarkets have better age-checks than internet downloads and dodgy dealers. In practice, most supermarkets take the "family retailer ...

Re: Petition to Legalise R18
The fuel tax protest would have lost the government serious money. Remember, they work out 1 or 2 years in advance how they are going to spend it, so they would have had to slap an emergency tax on something else. Food ? Beer ? Baby milk ? Holidays ? Whatever, it would have made them unpopular ...

Re: Petition to Legalise R18
"Call me jaded if you like but my experience of growing up in this country tells me that petitions or protests have no effect. During the Thatcher years our streets were full of protesters shouting "maggie maggie maggie out out out!" but it changed nothing....She stayed in power until her own party ...

Re: Petition to Legalise R18
At the momement the law works as well as 1920s Prohibition.
The current controls don't prevent pervs getting kiddy prun, 14 year olds getting really strong stuff.
The Gov might ignore the petition, but then they have the difficult job of explaining why they are opposed to protecting children.

Petition to Legalise R18
If anyone is interested, 10 Downing Street have accepted my petition to legalise R18 on cable, satellite and in the high street. All it needs now is shedloads of signatures to get some attention. Unlike previous petitions, it deals with the pro-censorship lobby, by explaining how making R18 more ...
