I visited Amsterdam last week for the first time in many years, and checked out the sex/video shops (mainly in and around Warmoesstraat). I expected to find a better and more up-to-date choice of vids than in London, but I was disappointed. In fact, I didn't find anywhere as good as Maxims or Corniche. Most of the stock appeared to be old-fashioned-looking German stuff, or old American stuff repackaged by German companies.

So don't go to Amsterdam expecting to find porn heaven. (Unless you are interested in animals, rape scenes, fisting, and other fringe activities, of which there is plenty.)

Or maybe I missed out on the best places, in which case no doubt someone will put me right!

No, i am afraid you are right. It is absolutely rubbish, I spent a week there on business last month.
Very poor and very expensive, i get the impression that better
shops probably could be found, but away from the tourist areas.

I have been told that you are better going to Dutch video shops, because regular video stores can sell hardcore.Sorry, I can't remember the names off hand.
To stay on topic, as far as this forum is concerned, you can find older Ben Dover stuff on DVD for very low prices in some record shops, I think the name of one is Fame, in Kalverstraat. I actually picked up a couple of Private DVDs in Virgin megastore for prices equivalent to mainstream DVDs - DVDs and CDs are possibly even dearer that UK prices.
I also found the Red Light district to be shit - a complete rip off as far as vids are concerned, but otherwise interesting!!!

It has been suggested to me that "Jumbo" is a store that may have porn, though I don't know personally.

Anyway, you can get what you want pretty easily on the web or in the UK these days, so why not enjoy the many other pleasures available in that fine city?

On my last visit, I was kicked out of the hotel 3 hours before te train left so killed time window shopping etc (in normal shops). In one on the main straat I saw Pam & Tom's vid for ?35ish, went further into the shopping area and found the same vid in their equivalent of HMV/Our price etc for a reasonable ?10.

just came back today went there two see u2 on the friday and sat and sunday me and the lads went two amsterdam,and you are all right its were the tourits go so they rip you off with the films or dvds.the best place i went four the films was guess....... the airport in schipil they had a great choice and i came back with three g.g.g. films witch are really good levo

I though the prices (I only looked at DVDs) at the airport were pretty expensive, by and large the same as the sex shops (all of which seem to have the same price tickets regardless of the name on the front of the shop, which may tell you something about the consistent high prices). They do have a good selection though.
