Recently, a posting the board asked for guys to take part in filming. Having done shoots for free in return for prints and copies of the DVD, I forwarded my details and thought I'd get back an email outlining what was expected.
Instead I received an email asking me for a paid contribution towards the various "expenses" the filmmaker was going to incur.
People often comment on this board why the UK adult industry is viewed as unprofessional and amateurish around the world, and this is one of the reasons why.
Filmmakers know they are making a product for resale and to expect others to cover their costs so they make pure profit from the DVD / video is pure greed at its worse.
Until film makers stop this practice, the UK adult industry will always be viewed as sleazy and amateurish.
Also, no request to check HIV or STI certificates was mentioned.

More like if they don't perform...

Couldn't agree more Harry. It's a shocker really.
Re: Filmmakers Expecting Guys to Pay for Filming
I have a feeling that I have previously read a post on here from a well established porn producer where the producer did charge new guys ?150 to star in one of his films.
There were 2 reasons for doing so.
Firstly was to cover some of his expenses if the guy didn't turn up.
Secondly the fee was to help get the guy on the first rung of the ladder.
I can't remember who the producer was but I understand the costs thing. Whether they were given back to performer when he did indeed show I have no idea but I can see his point.
Would you guys book a studio and a female model for a shoot and pay for that in advance and then book a male model to perform with her, who has never done it before, so you have no idea whether he can do it on camera. Also you have never met the guy before and therefore have no idea as to his reliability.
I wouldn't book a newbie if I were a producer (which I'm not by the way) with all the financial risks it would involve.
Would you?

But isn't that the same whether male or female ?
How do you know for sure the female model will show up?
I would have no problem at all performing in a film for no fee as I am not in the business and obviously it would be great to appear with gorgeous models. But I am certainly not going to pay for the privelidge, if the producer is worried someone may not show couldnt they have a reserve? Someone who doesnt get the part could surely be a backup.

Look I'm not in the business. I was only recycling something I read here before and I take your point about it not being fair that the guys being charged and not the girls. It isn't fair but thats life.
I take your point about the girls not showing either. I expect it has happened before and some of the people in the biz on here can tell you if thats so.
My point and question was, if you were a producer would you organise a shoot, pay for a female model, studio, cameraman etc and then use a new guy, who you don't know from adam, you don't whether he will turn up or whether he can perform?
Would you?
Would you deal out your hard earned on the chance it might happen. I wouldn't but then I suppose it's a matter of opinion.
As I said I'm not in the business and my opinion is totally uninformed.

Re: Filmmakers Expecting Guys to Pay for Filming
Ok So we all know my post for guys kicked this off .....
1st : the 1st e-mail reply weeded out the guys that where only after a freebie.
2nd : the whole idea is to set up a regular HJ party club for guys that are into HJs.... this is something lacking in the UK.... this has been explained to the guys that have got passed the weeding out process.
3rd : I pay the models fees, the guys cover the rest of the fees, food, drink and location ... trust me the models fees will out weigh the expenses ... pretty fair i think.
4th : Yes i will film it and put it on my site and DVD .... so what ... that's what i do
5th : well there's no 5th .... don't want to say something that may upset some people.
Now feel free to rip me apart cause when it comes down to it I don't really care.

Mick
I agreed totally with your post, my argument is with the guy who thought it was ok for men to be charged a fee to appear
I would be very interested in appearing in your project for your site but as I am in Leeds, I am out of the running. Pity you aren't based up here

Re: Filmmakers Expecting Guys to Pay for Filming
Mick,
Do you let the models know that the male attendees will be paying a contribution and that these guys will not have HIV and STI certificates?
It certainly blurs the line between porn model and the oldest profession which I know some models don't like.
Personally, I believe if the final film / photos are to be resold for commercial purposes, the organiser should cover the costs from the production budget. To demand male participants pay is just a way for you to maximise your profits and keeping genuine male performers out of work.
If the event is not filmed, I can understand requiring a contribution as this is an entirely different matter.
Whilst I know a number of guys will take yourself and a number of other organisers (too numerous to mention) up on the offer, I don't take part in any photoshoots which you have to pay for.
Regards
Harry
