Slightly off topic, sorry about that.
Just wondering what the hell is going on with newgroups, generally. Full of spammy shit, no-one appears to talk to each other like on this forum, and when you try to download movies (which seem to be split into smaller files which presumably one joins together with a seperate program) all I seem to download is a rambling and uninteleigable scramble of letters which looks like a child got onto the computer and pissed about pressing all the keys.
What the hell is going on and what can I do about it?

I know exactly what you mean.
Files are split into smaller sections
to guarantee that they get through.
Your news program (in theory) should
atomaticly rejoin all the parts.
This isn't always the case, servers can
often drop part of a post and there
are various types of coding involved
in splitting the file in the first place.
I've given up on them, you could try something
like KaZaA (http://www.kazaa.com) they are
a file share type thing.

combine and decode in outlook express(to join mpg files, have to download all files - 'agent' prog seems to do it auto)
'newspro' prog gets lots of stuff from dif servers- some pics fall off some servers.
have to filter and delete crap - aphrodisiac , bigger penis, lines < 100 etc.

To view a movie split into several/many parts, click on the first part then, whilst holding down CTRL select the rest of the parts, once done leftclick and select combine and decode. Onc done you'll get another message box onscreen with a mpeg in the subject line, click on this and it should play although some movies etc have divx coding to them. To find out about the coding go to http://www.divxmovies.com/faq/#1.2. Hope this is of help to you. I was in the same position as you 2 months ago and just kept reading the postings till I found out how to do the joining bit of movies.
