I know this gets talked about a lot, but what makes some porn performances stand out from others? For me it's the apparent enjoyment of the sex, and the degree to which you feel it's genuine. But what's the magic ingredient that raises a scene out of the porno filth? Actors, director, camera-work, lighting, a relaxed atmosphere on-set (sounds a bit glam for some of the locations most Brit-work is shot on)?

All the technical prowess in the world can't mask a crap performance, so you can put that to one side. It's not down to individual performers either. For example, I've seen Wendy Taylor absolutely scorching, but I've also seen her below par. I don't think it's the director, because again, although some are surer bets than others, their output varies considerably.

So what's that elusive 'x' factor? Here's what I think it is: 'Lorna and Leon' have a scene on Terry Stephens' Real Couples, which is my current all-time favourite. Yet to me, none of the other couples on this site come as close, even though they're all pretty good. The thing about these two is that Lorna genuinely seems to be VERY into her partner. She's sensual, calm, and absolutely filthy throughout, and is constantly directing Leon to do things to her to heighten her pleasure. It's the small things she does that make it work even harder:She absent-mindedly trails her fingers down his arms while blowing him, she kisses him both hard and tenderly, and licks his (slap) head, while riding him. It resonates with the best moments in my own sexlife, and SEEMS so genuine.

So how is it that these two can communicate such passion on-screen when others can't, even with the same directorial vibe? I guess it is a kind of bizarre chemical talent. I wish directors paid more attention to trying to get that chemistry right, rather than just wafting random holes in the general direction of random cocks and telling the girls to moan a little louder.
