Is Tabu shop reliable?

Post by David J »

Does anyone know if the unlicensed vid shop called Tabu (or maybe Taboo) in the alley between Brewer Street and Berwick street is kosher?

I was tempted to buy something there the other day, but the bloke behind the counter wouldn't put it in the VCR to let me check it, giving me some bullshit about they weren't allowed to show the vids. So I didn't buy it.

weren't you in there a while back, when you heard another customer complaining about being ripped off? they don't sound worth the risk.

'pirate' in kings cross opp. the old scala cinema, is the only unlicensed shop i've used in recent times and they were no problem at all. no guarantees, of course!

Thanks. My memory is crap, so I'm not sure if I was in Tabu before or not. I just know I haven't bought anything there.

I have bought a few things in Pirate, and they were OK. The Blue Danube in Caledonian Road also used to be OK, but they are under new management and I haven't tried them recently. The people who used to run Blue Danube are now running a shop on Pentonville Road just opposite the Thameslink station. They let you sample the vid before you buy it, so they should be OK.

And of course there are always Maxims and Corniche in Frith Street, who I've never heard a bad word about. Personally I have also found Little Amsterdam in Brewer Street reliable.
