Macca,why not open your own retail premises.
Presumably not every council charges 20k+ for a license.
Those are pretty juicy mark-ups you mentioned- enough to interest any investors if you need to raise the capital.
Rock bottom interest rates too these days.

Thinking about it, Getting a licence anywhere is murder, the councils just don't want to give them away. I realise the shops are paying out a load of money for their licences hence the heavy mark-up but the punters seem to be queing up to buy the stuff. Most of the shops are doing my stuff a bit cheaper than the other titles(american ones) cause I supply in volume at a decent price it also helps combat piracy when its easyier to buy the real McCoy

spoke to viv thomas today. he applied to the london borough of ealing for a license and was told point blank, there was no way they were ever going to issue him one.

this situation stinks! h/c is legal and people are entitled to trade in it without being extorted, or having to jump through the arbitrary hoops put in their way by puritanical, local government jobsworths.

people are also entitled to buy it. the barely supressed glee with which the prannet from the bbfc (on c5's excellent "sex and shopping" last night), emphasised r18 vids were only available from licensed outlets made me want to kick the cat. fortunately, i don't have a cat, so no harm was done!

is there a leagle eagle hereabouts, with a notion of how this nonsense can be challenged in the courts. restraint of trade, or some such?

This week a licence was refused for a proposed Adult Store
in Cambourne Cornwall, I believe the nearest place I can buy
"educational videos" is Plymouth Devon, nearly 80 miles away
surly this is an oppressive and crazy system.
The stated reason why the licence was refused was that it was
to be sighted within 500meters of a church & school.
SO F**KING WHAT !!!!!

i hail from your neck of the woods myself (penryn) and can well believe things haven't progressed much for the porn loving cornishman, since i left in '78.

can't say the lack of smut was the primary reason i made my way up to the big smoke but living 20 minutes from soho does have it's compensations.

i wonder if there'll be a black border on the next issue of 'whitehouse'?
