Event Horizon(@Steve56,Ace et al)

Post by Goater »

In the recent threads i forgot about this gem. I have been led to believe 'Event Horizon' was considerably chopped in this country for whatever reasons, may not be sinister, but even at that what a horrible idea and thoughts this film gave. Not much seemed to be made of it either but what would the media know but it's about the best SCi-Fi scary for 2 decades. Maybe it's Canadian as they're films always get relegated behind a crap US remake. I saw it listed for last night and so remembered. Anyone else agree/disagree etc. Anyone seen a film run occassionally on Sci-Fi called 'Cube' about these people who just find themselves within a gigantic cube boobytrapped throughout? Thoroughly recommend these films if you haven't seen them. Excellent

The Internet Movie Database entry
doesn't refer to any version changes due to censorship issues, although
supposedly stuff in the original trailer was cut from the final edit by the
producers/director.

The director of Event Horizon is Paul Anderson (not the 'Boogie Nights' one!),
a Brit who made Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil (and it's sequel due next year).

He also gets to wake up next to Milla Jovovich in the mornings.

It's a tough old world...... :-)

Re: Event Horizon - Teresa May question

Just wondering about the Teresa May scene? When do we see this in the film? I saw a bit of the film last year when it came on TV but missed parts of it. Was Teresa actualy in the film or was it a deleted scene? it mensions on IMDB that she played a 2047 Pin-Up called Vanessa. She also apears in a new movie called Dog in which she plays Mandy.

I would agree with you about 'Event Horizon being scary. Puts me in mind of 'In the Mouth of Medness', which has somewhat similar themes. And both feature Sam Neil in the lead. Is there something else we should know????

Maybe so, DC! Great idea it was too. Elmer, in our current climate i didn't think it was so much chopped because of gore but more that something as you said would have happened. Friday the 13th 2 suffered this way but thru its gore and CIC, whose first Friday it was, butchered it before it got anywhere so the original shoot has probably gone for good, probably. Still great stuff chopped or not.

Iam sorry but 'In the Mouth of Madness' is the worst film of all time, if i see that Tina Turner lookalike on the bike again ill scream and scream until iam sick ,It starts out as a great idea for a film , a Book that once read turns people into nutters that kill (Satanic verses anyone?)but what a pile of shite it becomes .....aghhhhhhhhh how did Sam Neil make that i dont know?
Check out the uncut BLUE SUNSHINE simula thing but people who took acid 10 years ago start going mad and killing dodgy fx but a really good film.
The Cube ,on the other hand i liked ,yer yer you knew that once a Autistic person turns up he's going to figure out lots of math's stuff ,but i liked it
the gore and fx are very well made like the man cheese wired up at the start and some nice tence moments with the Police man cracking up and getting his revenge , i Liked the way they don't tell you why the cubes is their or why these people are put their to be tested in the first place ,all in all i would recommend renting it ! I was walking round A Pikey Market in yesterday and i saw a pirate copy of the Cube 2 on dvd (they also had a copy of Matrix reloaded , and the bloke said they were selling it before it came out at the flicks , sorry but iam still amazed at this cheekyness !!) any good ?

I respect your opinion, but obviously don't agree with you about 'In The Mouth of Madness'.

I read H P Lovecraft as a kid, and those stories terrified me, so I was already programmed to find the prospect of evil, demonic, utterly malignant beings just looking for the opportunity to 'cross over' (as in both EH & ITMOM) very scary. These are not biological creatures as we (or cows or earthworms, for that matter) are, but pure rage or malevolence. At least the 'Alien' beasties have some sort of existence as creatures, rather than just things.

It's horses for courses I suppose. 'Blair Witch' I found tedious. I find 'Texas Chainsaw' very hard to watch. What scares you is very individual.
