It seems to be a tradition within Islam going all the way back to the old man in the mountains and his hashisheen (look them up in your search engines or history books; there's nothing new). If you're certain that the next life is paradise, and that you will be rewarded for throwing away your life taking dozens of infidels with you, then death has no fear.

It's the utter bastards in the background sending out idealistic young men and women, and even young teenagers, and saying, "I wish it was me, but sadly I have a job to do here" that should be taken out. How deeply cynical is that, using someone's ideals to turn them into a weapon?

I can't see any end to this cycle of death, but then I couldn't see an end to apartheid or the Soviet Union either.

I cant ever see a day when when people are not afraid to die for thier beliefs and thats probably a commenable thing in a human being, the trouble is with extremist, fundamentalist etc, no-one knows what thier beliefs are, as Mags said they are prepared to die for whatever they are brainwashed to believe. I watched in disbelief as two planes flew into the WTC, a building many of us have been in, as part New York experience.
These guys were smart and educated, some probably in the west and sent to do the bidding of others in the belief they would move on to a greater life.
I wouldn,t shoot the grinning twat found guilty in Bali, I would wait till they have caught all the rest of them, ship them off to Cuba, and force them shoot each other once all useful Information had been gotten from them.

I was glad the old veterans turned their backs to the Japanese PM when he visited the uk a few years back ........... yes the second world war has been over a long time but they never really apologised (or been brought to account) for their war crimes against the Allies ......
