Gory horror films do nothing for me, I'm afraid.
I prefer to be scared psychologically (such as the genuinely bowel-moving original version of The Haunting) rather than grossed out by a zombi oozing brains and entrails. But, hey, it'd be a boring old world if we all liked the same stuff. On which note . . . .

Wasn't that Thunderbirds?
Sorry, just had a Steve56 moment.
Stephen King described the less is more thing in his Danse Macabre, but called it the 50-foot Bug Syndrome. At a point in the movie, when the tension is high, someone will open a door and the audience are shit scared of what might be waiting. If you show them a 50-foot bug, they'll think, "Thank God, it's a 50-foot bug; it could have been a 100-foot bug." The more that's left to the imagination the better.

Jackie Brown IS a great flick, far superior to Pulp and Res Dogs, but due to the lack of violence, it didnt do so well. Natural Born Killers is one of QT's screenplays, but ruined with Oliver Stone's banal direction. Pulp and Res Dogs are littered with errors and bad editing, but are still gems.
If anyone has seen Res Dogs, answer this..........Who shoots 'Nice Guy' Eddie? The 'stand-off' at the end is great EXCEPT Eddie is shot, but by whom? as Mr White (Kietel) shoots the boss, who shoots Mr Orange (Roth) who has no bullets after putting a whole clip into the psyhoctic Mr Blonde (Marsden). Only Mr Pink (Buscemi) 'could' have done it, BUT he is hiding under the stairs at the shoot out, so who did it?

Danse Macabre is a great thesis from King, but he of all people should've noted that the only thing worse than your own imagination is - possibly - someone else's. And it's on this level that the visceral horror of the Romero/Raimi/Fulci ilk are attempting to operate.

After Dream Catcher, I think he's lost the plot altogether.

But if it's 'entertaining', what does that say about the human psyche?
Yes, yes, I know it's supposed to be programmed into us, but whatever happened to 'transcending our biology'?
