oh god this was one of my major old problems on my old computer. Only trouble is I can't remember how the hell I dealt with it but i do know that reinstalled Windows completely clears it. First you could try reinstalling your image viewers and internet explorer (upgrade) etc and you might get lucky with it. Ill post if i remember how mine cleared

I think you may have a virus.

The proper name for Internet Explorer is iexplore.exe

There is a virus around that replaces iexplore.exe with
a file called explore.exe.

Did you receive a piece of mail from a friend with an
attachement you were told to run, and did you run it ?.

If so this is the way the virus distributes itself.

Can you confirm it is explore.exe and not iexplore.exe

Can you let us know the release of Windows and the
release of IE you are on.

Do you run any anti-virus software. If not download
AVG anti-virus which is a free anti-virus program

You should also consider downloading WinPatrol which
is also free and tells you when anyone tries to install
new software or change your browser.

Hi there

thanks for the info here goes

This is what the message I get:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!

Program:C\ProgramFiles\InternetExplorer\iexplore.exe

abnormal progam termination

Looks like I missed the 'i' out...sorry!!!

I do run both aniti-virus and firewall software - McAffee

I have received a couple of zip folders from a friend but I was expecting them and I did check for viruses before opening them, also I didn't nor was I asked to run anything.

Not sure which version of IE I'm using, it could be 7 all I can say is that it was loaded onto the PC when I bougth it about two years back. I am running Windows XP.

I have never had anything like this before and it is very annoying, so any help or advice whould be much appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance

At the risk of repeating myself try running all the spyware/hijack removal programs in Miscellany under Lizards Locker to make sure your system is clean...spybot,adaware,CW Shredder

If it turns out to be spyware try visiting
Some disturbing security info about programs which relate to Windows XP
with solutions included

If problem is not spyware related I'd check out the Windows XP forums at

or

Yeh youre right about that Deuce but from my memory of having this exact problem it wasnt virus related. It was a flaw in windows or IE. I cant remember for the life of me what I did but if uve only got the IE from about two years ago then thats probably about 5.0 and we're up to 6.0 now so before you do anything else download the new IE and see if you are still getting this error message.

Sound advice

I remember when i first got IE5 it self destructed so the computer experts on the help line said upgrade to IE5.5...fixed...that self destructed so upgraded to IE6....when that self destructed re-installed

Bottom line....computers always come up with problems eventually and even the experts don't understand the reasons just the solutions most times

I'm just amazed there are SO many problems out there with computers. The error lists are endless and i just dont understand it because even though programs are incredible complex and I dont understand them I still wouldve thought everything on a computer would just get on with doing its job and not affect everything else. Fascinating but agonising if you're the one with the error!

I'm no computer expert but I believe its more to do with how the Windows Versions are written more than anything.I've seen several docos that have said that if Windows XP was written properly most of the gaping security holes wouldn't exist

The only difference bewteen Windows 95 & XP besides all the enhancements is really the way its written

Better written program = a more stable & secure enviroment which should be better able to cope with outside influences

All the hackers in the world are showing that XP hasn't been written to its fullest potential

Yeah I guess you are right - microsoft can make money off the loopholes which sucks. Apple have less loopholes but their comps are less fun to use (from what i remember) and generally less appealling somehow mainly due to compatibility issues etc with other things. Shame really...didnt Bill Gates just copy Apple of IBM or something to make Windows ? oh well...
