cheaper by the dozen

Post by bfu »

saw a trailer for 'cheaper by the dozen' with the very unfunny steve martin.

suppose its a 'remake' of the subtly comic 1950 version with clifton webb and myrna loy.

hollywood gets worse every month.

Time to resurrect the "I remember when Steve Martin* was funny" thread.

Eddie Murphy
Hale and Pace (no, honestly, for a short time in the mid-1980s this was true)

You'd be referring to when Hale & Pace worked with the skinny rubber chicken...oh and Gareths French skit-ie pissing anywhere and everywhere

Eddie Murphy funny...not in my lifetime...trash talking uncouth smartass but not funny EVER

Loathe people that laugh at their own jokes before the audience

People laughing at their own "jokes" reminds me of another pet hate.
Those sports quiz-type progs. with 2 teams of sports personalities (that's the biggest joke). They wet their pants at every remark that's made.
The show here is called A Game of Two Halves. It would be more accurate to call it A Game of Eight Halfwits.

Simple things amuse simple minds

Our sporting/celebrity show is called 'The Fat'

They've got the mix about right.....panel of 7 with 2/3 guests

1 Host of no sporting background of any note
2 Minor Celebrities of no note

Every week 2 sporting celebrities & 2 comedians(I use the word comedian loosely)

The beauty of this show is that it doesn't take itself that seriously
like those devoted to football, soccer & rugby. They seem to think the world would end if their sport were to cease to exist

You are right that it doesn't take much to make a sporting audience laugh
or to become confused

cheers

"Loathe people that laugh at their own jokes before the audience"

Ah, the Billy Connolly favourite!

As for H&P, I meant before they got their own show. They, Chris Barrie and Carla Mendozca (?spelling?) were part of a sketch show, the name of which I've forgotten. The eighties produced many of them----including Al Fresco, which featured one Emma Thompson, among others. A Kick Up The Eighties started the TV careers of Rik Mayall (Kevin Turvey) and Tracey Ullman; and Laugh? I Nearly Paid My License Fee was patchy but did have Robbie Coltrane's superb Orange bigot Mason Boyne.

Murphy? Well, that was just an example of someone considered funny who keeps desperately trying to resurrect his career.

Btw, you Antipodeans are a tough audience :-)

Ullman was funny, and talented, but the ego took over, in my opinion. I still want to know what happened to the multi-talented (singing, dancing, impression-doing) Jessica Martin, who just seemed to vanish around 1992.

(Oh, and I think the Carla I was referring to was Mendonca; apologies)

How's Steve?
