DVD tech QSs.

Post by mart »

Yes, I know there have been discussions on here before and I've looked back through them. It's all there somewhere but can someone give me a shortcut to finding the answers to 2 Qs.
1. I'm having probs. with the DVD player on my laptop. I suspect its the software but do I have any alternatives to the software originally installed.
2. Where do I get the best up to date info. on external DVD/CD burners.

Hi Mart,

You are going to have to be carefull here, firstly is your Laptop still under warranty, if it is DO NOTHING, any upgrade my invalidate your warranty.

I am not quite clear on the problems you are having, is it a problem burning a DVD or Playing a DVD. If it is the latter i am guessing the the actual DVD Drive is region Locked, this briefly means it may only play Region2 disks rather than Region1. If that is the case you can use a piece of software called DVD REGION Free this is available from WWW.AFTERDAWN.COM. It can be downloaded on trial for 30days.

If the problem is burning a disk then again i am guessing you will have a DVD+R Drive. If i were you, and bearing in mind any warranty issues i would not touch it. A possible soloution would be to buy a USB DVD-R Drive.

Have a look at WWW.DVD-RECORDABLE.ORG

Thanks Nobby.
No, its not a burner, only a player. And no, its not a region problem and its well out of warranty.
It doesnt open automatically when I insert a DVD and after a lot of faffing around it sometimes, very reluctantly, agrees to play a disk. More often than not it just freezes and I have to CtrlAltDel.
