i have gotten the mother of all viruses on my lap top and can not get rid of it due to the virus shutting down my system before i have time to run a virus wash. any help apprichiated. or a cheap second hand lap top. cos mine is in critical condition.

Are you sure it's a virus and not Windows XP automatic safety shutdown?
I had a similar problem and had to update XP with a patch.
If not, next time you boot up, wait til alls finished loading and then hit ctrl-alt-del and check whats up and running.
You'll have enough time to scan thru and hit end process on anything that looks out of place.

Try that for a start. It might buy you some time.

tried that. no applications running. only odd things on process were svchost.exe which were local host and network service.

all looked fine to me.

It kills any hijackers that have infected your system.
It did wonders for me.

Then download this:

It's called Hijack This.
Run a scan once you've installed it and then save your log.
Then go to this website:

and post your log in the first topic - Spyware and Hijackware Removal Support.



The people there are really good at sorting virus & trojan related probs.

it seems to be a trojan.

keep in mind i have 3 websites loaded on my laptop so any scans take hours. will these not take hours cos its seems to shut down after about 20/30 mins.

The scans with Hijack This take about 10 seconds if that!
It scans the registry in an instant. It's not a virus scanner.
Trust me!
