Split Enz

Post by Pervert »

Not something that a slaphead like me normally suffers from :-(

I'd almost forgotten this forerunner of Crowded House ever existed, then I heard Six Months In A Leaky Boat on the radio. Wonderful stuff!

I am a Split Enz nut and saw them in 1977 in the loudest concert what I ever was at. Their first album 'Mental Notes' came out late in 1975 and but was recorded in Melbourne and the quality wasn't quite there. The whole album was mostly repeated on their second effort 'Second Thoughts' which was done in London the following year. Phil Manzanera produced it this time and its better, but I still play both quite often.

Phil Judd left the band soon after and although they went on to make some great stuff, I dont think they were ever as clever as with Judd in there. And I cant recall any band going to as much trouble to look as strange as they.
