I always liked ABBA in Super Trouper , the line "feeling like a number one" needs to be delivered in Swedish accent , having a blonde bird in the group was the icing on the cake ,

nick drake is a rare example of someone who sang in received pronunciation - i.e. dahnss instead of danss for dance - and not just for effect but simply because it wouldn't have occured to him to be anything other than himself. it doesn't stop his music from being some of the most affecting ever written, either.

btw, i don't think anyone could accuse mr lydon of being a mockney. of sounding like tommy steele, yes...

Some accents just sound naff when sung

My least favourite being Billy Bragg although saying he's singing is probably a stretch

I can see where your'e coming from Magoo, early U2 was very Oirish, sounds nothing like them now.
The WORSE slag who I point the finger at is Ben Elton, who is without doubt, the most unfunny cunt I have ever heard, even fucking Skinner and Baddiel rate higher than Ben............just
And if I hear any poster who thinks they are 'original' in telling me that Joe Strummer went to Boarding School, then don't bother, Iv'e read/heard it before. If YOUR dad worked for the foreign office, chances are you will get a taste of boarding school

The West London of my youth is now on dvd

I've met the man on the street............and he's a cunt

While not being a fan of the Welsh (sorry, Alec) as such, it has to be said that any bloke who doesn't get at least a semi listening to Cerys singing about "Rrrrrrrrrrroad rrrrrrrrrrage" is beyond saving.

Ferry good?

Post by The Last Word »

I don't mind singers with affected accents as they may well sound better because of it. Apparently, when Bryan Ferry drops his guard in private, he sounds only marginally less geordie then Jimmy Nail.

Avalon and the like wouldn't sound so alluring then, would they.

Anyone else watch the Viv Stanshall bio pic ( on before the prisoner ). He used to sing in RP , I had never noticed this before reading this thread , it was just part of the deal .
It also made me think of starting a thread of people who it is impossible to imagine carrying one of Blunkett's ID card .
