The word is penultimate, Sandie. And the reason the Yanks take the piss out of our teeth is because we don't have braces fitted in our childhood so they will grow in straight and true. It's becoming more common practice over here now, but it seems to have been part of American life for at least 50 years.

Okay, so maybe we have a few higgledy-piggledy teeth, but at least we look real (except Lizard, who's made out of old retreads). This concept of every single thing being perfect is obsessive behaviour.

The first time I travelled out here (NZ) by freighter all the other passengers were US or Canadian. They were all in my sort of age range and they all had their "original" teeth. But at what cost?
