Jean Charles de Menezes

Looks like the London Police are going to be found to be the liars and cheats they've always been known for. Couldn't expect much more from them really ... a leopard never changes it's spots.

Well done Met. Your toughest weeks have just gone by and yet you still get critisised. Wonder who you would turn to Nachovx for help if you needed it. Police are only human after all, give them support not a barracking. They acted in the heat of the moment. I applaud them for protecting the people of London. Mr Menezes was an illegal . Fact. He shouldnt have been here walking our streets. No doubt his family will suck up every last bit of taxpayers dosh still.

Most people on this forum, including myself and Nachovx, backed the police in killing Mr de Menezes, even when it appeared to be an execution style killing, because we were told he had run when police challenged him. Since that version of events now looks suspect, and the Met heirarchy has apparently lied about aspects of the operation, an inquiry is needed.

His legal status is something that has helped the police case so far. But in reality, it could have been any Tube passenger killed without warning by armed police. In order to have faith in the police, we need to know why they acted the way they did.

I dont think the penalty for an expired visa should be death. The bloke wasnt a criminal or terrorist, he was an electrician. I understand the police are in an unenviable position when dealing with suicide bombers but with the new light thats been shed on the incident, you do have to wonder what the fuck they were playing at. And with their lying about the events that transpired, I think they know they fucked right up too.

er, my understanding is that this is a leak to a newspaper (very reliable then)
the initial enquiry is still going on, wouldn't it be a good idea to actually wait and see what that says before jumping to any conclusions?

we are Leeds.... , and we can still beat the mighty Chester

True - he was working and not sponging. However, he had no lawful status and had no permission to work as he was an absconder. Therefore it is highly unlikey he was paying tax and ni contributions - if he was then he would have had to of used a false identity to obtain such papers and documents.

Im not silly enough to say a mistake hasnt been made. However surely the benefit of the doubt must be given to the Met. They have a duty to protect the public and should use whatever force or tools necesarry to do so.

Errr... sorry...

Post by JackHorny »

In a crowded public place if someone shouted to me "ARMED POLICE - STOP OR I'LL SHOOT" - I know for a a FACT I would stop... I'm pretty sure anybody would do likewise...

Now if it were the dead of night in an isolated street, nobody around and some plainclothes bully shouted "ARMED POLICE, STOP OR I'll SHOOT" - my reaction might be different...

I'm sorry, but I have to back the persons on the ground at the time...
I retired when I sadly realised nobody wanted me!

There is now doubt over whether any warning was given. One officer was quoted on ITN as saying he'd grabbed the suspect on the Tube (no chase, no heavy fleece being worn, no vaulting barriers), and suddenly shots rang out close to his head, and then he (the officer) was dragged away.

In the original discussion on this, most agreed that anyone ignoring a "Stop, armed police" shout would be liable for any tragedy that followed. These new accounts suggest there was no warning.

I wouldn't fancy doing the Met's job at the moment---damned if they do, damned if they don't. But we need to know what happened, and why.
