Anyone know how to resolve an issue where my motherboard isn't recognising my DVD or CD Rom?

It's happening with a brand new motherboard and one that should be working.

Help would really be appreciated.

Just a thought but check your settings within the BIOS.

You have two IDE 'slots' on your motherboard, one for IDE0, the other
for IDE1. Each IDE 'slot' can take 2 devices (hard drive, CD drive etc) so
4 devices in all.

On each IDE 'slot' one device is usually set as the 'master' the other
the 'slave'. This is usually indicated by a little jumper on the back of
the device, be it hard drive, CD drive, DVD drive etc. There should be
a small diagram on the device.

So if you have two devices on one IDE 'slot' make sure one is set as
master, the other slave.

If you only have one device on an IDE slot set it as master.

The bootable hard drive should be the 'master' on IDE0.

Also the 'master' device should be plugged in at the end of the IDE
cable, the 'slave' half way down the IDE cable.

There is something called 'cable select' that does away with master
and slave, but to keep it simple I would go with the master/slave
settings.

Also, make sure you have the 'red' stripe down the side of the IDE
cable the right way round both ends.

The power cables are all plugged in.
All of the cables are in the correct IDE slots.
Harddrive in Slot 0.
CD/DVD plugged into Slot 1.
The BIOS is set to automatically detect drives.


But I still have no luck. I did have a similar problem the first time I replaced a motherboard and doing a complete format and reinstall of the Harddrive solved it. But this time around I can't even do that since I can't access the CD or DVD to install the operating system.

I'm waiting for the suppliers to come and get it as their techie thinks there may be a problem with the sockets. But i'm thinking that the sockets may be OK, just something is slightly off with the BIOS settings, that's preventing the recognition of the the CD/DVDs.

If you know of anything else that may help, please let me know. I'm not that great when it comes to making changes or diagnosing problems with the BIOS.

If not try re-installing your ASPI drivers.

Also make sure the IDE Cable is plugged in the right way, i have an idea table where the lil knob thing on it, is soooo shallow that it will fit in both ways grrrr
