Queen with Paul Rodgers

Post by Rude Boy »

There's a live album out from the recent tour by Queen with Paul Rodgers on vocals. I didn't see any of the gigs but I picked up the cd as I dig Queen big-time. The tracklisting is interesting and the pictures in the booklet are nice, everything is fine until one listens to it.....oh dear.

In my opinion it proves that some musicians are just unique and attempting to replace them is pointless. Paul Rodgers sounds great on the Free tracks such as Wishing Well but sounds fucking average on the Queen tracks, it really is like listening to a bloke at a karaoke. I suspected Freddie Mercury was untouchable and, on this showing, he is.

Kenny Jones failing spectacularly to replace Keith Moon in The Who was another memorable howler. That was akin to replacing a Ferrari 288GTO with a Peugeot 306...diesel.

Rude Boy,

Attend the premiere of the DVD last week where Brian and Roger turned up. It was nice that a number of the songs were performed by these two with Paul R doing most of the power sections.

Once thing which I noticed from the DVD was that Paul Rogers was at ease running up and down singing whilst Roger seemed ill at ease and Brian was happier doing the odd number.

I agree Freddie was untouchable and felt at sometimes it was like a karoake.

I think most of the fans though just wanted a chance to sing along with their idols.

Regards

Harry

Heard some on Planet rock radio and switched the fuck off, definitley not "alright now", see John Deacon didn't tag along, it's like The Pink Floyd without the DG, as pointless as a lolly stick in dog shit.

The feeling is that Deacon knows the show is over; May and the Castrato are determined to milk it come what may.

No matter who they get---Paul Rodgers, George Michael of whoever---they wouldn't measure up to Freddie, whatever you thought of him. This bid to reincarnate their careers will just destroy the memories of Queen. And you wouldn't have thought they need the money.

It's as pointless as all that talk after John Lennon's murder of the remaining Beatles getting back together.

In a way, I say good luck to RT and BM for keeping the Queen flag flying, people will always want to see them play no matter who the vocalist is. On the other hand, I agree with the stance taken by John Deacon in that they don't need to keep reprising what they did. Their reputation is based around a tremendous body of work created between 73 and 91, all this now is just a show, nothing more nothing less. I suppose it's their horse if they wanna flog it to death they can, but surely they don't need the money...

I'm sure it was a case of Brian and Roger desperately wanting to go out and play all those incredible songs again and who can blame them. What a buzz it must be to stand on stage in a packed enormodome, full of people who think you are the bollocks and play a killer lead solo at enormous volume while a million varilites and lasers do their thing AND your bank balance is booming by the minute. It must be phenomenal. As good as sex with Nikky Blonde? Probably.

That said I still think Paul Rodgers sounds lame singing Freddie and, judging by the pictures in the cd, he has lots more hair than he did a few years ago. C'mon...it's a wig!!
