art director question

Post by jude »

Hi, it may be a dumb question, but I work in tv as an art director/scenery designer and I was wondering if designers were used in the adult industry?

The british tv and film industry is going down the pan so I thought I'd try and branch out and you guys judging by the amount of adult films in the world must be able to provide me with a more regular source of income.

Is anyone able to give me advice, or interested in seeing my cv? I'm very good at my job and good wth tight budgets, which is I assume what the adult industry requires?

Thanks for any help anyone can give, I'll be highly indebted, Jude

An Art Director from a traditional media background...hhmmm, the mind boggles with the possibilities, I have this little council flat in Hackney, could you make it look like the Rovers Returns or the Queen Vic ?
or how about my Lock Up in Streatham where I keep my old Cortina Mk 1, could you make it look like that Gaff in 'Pride and Prejudice' ?

but seriously Jude, how much UK Porn have you actually watched ? and I mean Watched as opposed to jerked off to, I cant really see Marino needing an 'Art Director' on one of his road trips, can you ? or how about Jim Slip ? maybe he can use you to tastefully decorate one of those alleyways where he shoots his pick-ups ?

I have to agree with the first part of your statement, its a dumb question, but you never know, maybe someone wants to shoot a porn version of 'War of the Worlds' then they are going to need your services

Is that true (no idea)?

If not why not. I work as a cameraman and noone says "just checking - you don't shoot porn do you?"

I get my work on merit not because of my background.

if there were any budgets in porn it would be very useful. ten years ago I made a few films called "The Triple X Files" for a German. We built 6 sets in a large studio. One was The King Tutts Tomb, A Victorian alleyway, a classroom , a 1st World War field hospital, an Arabic tent set, and a travel agent, I was just starting on The Taj Mahal and then ran out of space..........joking!

All the sets, with the correct lighting looked amazingly good. But the prop hire was enormous. In those days you might have got work, we used to have proper budgets, well "proper" to us, to you broadcast chappies, the budget would just about have covered a few lunches at Quaglinos!

We also managed to complete 3 films without the use of ONE single cute blonde girl with a clip-board or a gay with a head-set. Do you really hand-on-heart think you could do the same!!?? LOL

Luckily I had 5 years theatre experience, which now is worth Jack Shit! A camcorder, a 40watt bulb and some baby-wipes is the order of the day. Our lunch budget allows for a a bag of Pork Scratchings and a lump of stale bread. It sometimes brings a tear to my eye, watching the cast fighting and scrabbling on the floor for the last crumbs!

If I were you I'd give porn a miss and go in to interior design.
