Another question for the computer experts I am afraid.
I keep being sent emails with attachments that won't open.
The latest being a normal word doc.
I won't go into detail but I need to read them urgently.
I think the problem is with the sender because I've received others which I have been able to see but the sender is 'the boss' and it's not very diplomatic saying she's a pain in the ass sending stuff I can't open.
Does anyone know what the actual problem is so I can tell her how to solve it please?
Thanks
Andy

Re: help with email attachments
Watchout my friend these a new trojan going around that sounds just like what you are saying in your post. Plus a nasty blank mail one as well!
Re: help with email attachments
Yup! Are you sure its a word doc and not a diguised pif, exe or scr file?
Save attachment to your desktop and scan it with anti-virus before trying to open.

XP with SP2 won't open Word docs. Its a security measure.

Re: help with email attachments
Thanks
It's definately not a virus it's a document about an event my boss wants me to help organise.
She's sent others in a format I couldn't recognise that's why the word doc was sent, but for some reason that wouldn't open either.
Thanks anyway

Re: help with email attachments
There is a setting in Outlook called:
"Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus".
In Outlook express it is under Tools then Options then Security.
If you have Outlook (as opposed to Outlook Express) it may be somewhere
else (but probably still under Security).
If you have another e-mail program you need to hund around for something similar.
