David Gilmour has been voted No 1 in a vote of 'Fender's Greatest players' in a poll in this month's 'Guitarist' magazine in the UK. The readers poll is part of a series of features celebrating Fender Guitars' 60th birthday, and David appears ahead of such celebrated guitarists as Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Keith Richards, and Eric Clapton.
'Guitarist' comments: "Gilmour has achieved what once seemed impossible: he's usurped Jimi Hendrix as your favourite Fender player ever. His forthcoming solo album 'On An Island' will offer a rare taste of new material, while his gliding, shining playing with Pink Floyd not only stands the test of time, it seems to become ever more popular.."
While David's unique tremolo work is associated with the Fender Stratocaster, he also plays various other makes, including Gibson and Gretsch electric guitars, plus Martin and Taylor acoustics.

Thats all well and good Arnie, BUT.............
The magazine is a UK based magazine and doesn't have the clout as say, Total Guitar or Guitar World does on a world wide scale.
I think Gilmour is a very accomplished player and deserves his accolade, but Greatest Fender Player throughout the world? I don't think so.
Personally, I'm glad he beat Hendrix and Blackmore, but honestly speaking here, Stevie Ray Vaughan was an exceptional guitarist and not a one trick pony like some of axemen mentioned. He'd get MY vote, purely as I have never heard him play anything other than a Stratocaster. Same as with Steve Stevens, I have heard him do things on a six string other guitarists can only DREAM of doing.
Still, your boy got the nod.........so everyones happy, eh?

I don't even read any guitar magazines mate, just got it from his site, I hate it when people jump on the band wagon and say I love this one and that one, but to be honest I don't know much about other players, and have probably never even heard some of who you mention.
As you know I don't stray from anything else really, apart from Led Zep, The Who, Oasis, Gary Moore is a fantastic blues guitarist, as is Doyle Bramhall who supported Roger Waters on his 1999-2000 In the flesh tour, heavily influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughan as he jammed with him a lot growing up.
