father killed by 14 yr old!
seems guns are getting easy to get now?
Re: father killed by 14 yr old!
Just shows what a lot of hooey the government campaign and legislation to stop legitimate users of firearms from owning them after Dunblane was. It's now 10 years since Dunblane and the UK as a result has about the most stringent gun laws in the world. However, these don't affect criminals who never bothered registering guns in the first place.
We are now in the silly situation that come the Olympics in 2012, British competitors can't practise for target shooting events in the UK.
Can anyone honestly say that they feel safer now than they did before Dunblane and the subsequent legislation?

Re: father killed by 14 yr old!
The post-Dunblane handgun ban was nothing more than an ill-thought-through, knee-jerk reaction on the part of clueless, incompetent politicians desperate to be "seen to be doing something".
We had a repeat performance just the other week in the form of the panic ban on hand luggage at airports - and the resulting chaos that ensued.
"When you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns".

It's not that, Steve, it's the new willingness of brainless, sociopathic, street scum to use them. Nowadays they feel totally unconstrained and uninhibited after decades of indulgence by middleclass hand wringers. Hand wringers who usually live far away in safe, civilised, leafy suburbs. Blame them.
When I was a child in the sixties this kind of thing was inconceivable. Hardly anyone would dream of shooting or stabbing anyone else. We might thump them, sure, but anything else was totally beyond the pale. This was despite the fact that our families could barley afford to put shoes on our feet and grub on the table (I clearly remember being rationed to one fish finger and half a dozen chips a day). The only folks I remember getting shot in the 60's were JFK and the policeman who was gunned down by Harry Roberts.
I wonder who it was who shot him? Apparently, they KNIFED him some months earlier. Hmmm, makes you wonder.

Re: father killed by 14 yr old!
Yeah it's sad.
You know, some people want guns to be even more readily available too. In fact, some of these people want most illegal drugs to be legalised at the same time!
So the cure to all our problems seems to be, get yourself into a 'hallucinatory, paranoid state of mind, while having access to handguns'.
The damn authoritarian government of today won't let us have any fun will they?
!grin!

Totally agree with Bigoldowl that nothing will happen to him..... because, well it won't be his fault. Social workers will find loads of reasons why the poor darling's background/upbringing etc. forced him to do it. Grrrrr....
