Nigger - its an historical fact. Much more interesting is how they are going to film the Lancasters. In the 1950s there were enough around, plus some RAF Lincolns, to do the flying shots.
The RAF's only Lancaster has restricted flying hours and, anyway, can't be modified to repreent the revised bomb bay so I dare say there will be 30 minutes of credits at the end of the film whilst the graphic artists, computer animation experts and pixel peepers are acknowledged as they are the only hope the film makers have of covering the flying sequences.

I have an old Airfix (or it may be Tamiya) model of a "Dambuster" Lancaster (as well as a "standard" Lanc) they can borrow! !grin!

A Dam Busters remake eh?
Technical advances aside - what exactly is the point?

Re: The Dambusters remake.
Oh my god is it true? I genuinely couldn't be happier. We (ww2 bomber fans) haven't realy had a bomber film since Memphis Belle and anything involving a Lancaster or B17 would be superb. As for the planes, with a big enough budget it would be easily possible to recreate entire planes with wood and cloth a la Memphis Belle and just use one of the still flying Lancasters for any important action shots
Basically as we all should know already - its all about money, the owners of the PA474 could easily be tempted with a million pound maintenence grant for their ship for use in a movie....
Fuck it, just build another one from scratch
Oh and to answer your original question/joke...hehe...i dont think the dog will feature sadly

Re: The Dambusters remake.
As Nigger was the code word key to the project, I'm sure the dog will feature. It seems the dog may be renamed - more PC hysteria. They may as well change the location of the dams for fear of upesetting the citizens of Germany.
As I said in a previous post, the hours on the RAF Lancaster (PA474) are very limited - it isn't a matter of money as the Govrenment, who own it, paid for a re-spar some years ago, but spar life, engine life and availability of Merlin spares, the lack of Dam Buster mods to the airframe and the problems of low level flying for filming make it highly likely that computer graphics and, perhaps even Bob's Lanc will be used.
BTW the only other flying Lancaster is based in Canada at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton ON. It has a full airshow programme booked over the next 3 years and they have already turned down offers from other WW 2 film makers.

Re: The Dambusters remake.
As has been pointed out. "Nigger" was the code word for a successful dam breach, and to change it for PC reasons would be madness. Back in 40's Britain it had no rascist overtones, possibly because there were almost no black people here. Things were different in the south of the US, but in Britain at that time "nigger" was a pretty neutral term. I have seen magazine adverts from the 50's for things like coats described as "nigger brown", which obviously was not meant to cause offence.
I think if they start changing things like this, what will be the point of this remake? Surely the aim cannot be to make it less authentic than the original movie?
