"The world's oldest profession"

Post by kinetic »

There aren?t many subjects on which I can claim to have knowledge and this is right at the top of the list. It?s a subject that I stand on the fence on ? I?m not really sure what I feel and wanted to get some insight from everyone else.

Part of me says that if a woman wants to prostitute herself then that is her right ? as long as she is safe and paid a fair wage (whatever that is ? well that?s a whole different topic) for it ? why not? It?s using what you have to earn a living where you might not be as well rewarded pursuing a different work path.

Then the other side of me thinks that if a women has to sell herself to survive ? what the hell is society doing letting her have to give up her own body to get paid. I suppose she could be paying a drug habit or seriously in debt.

Then the little blue Tory in me says that we should legalise it ? why shouldn?t she get taxed for earning ? and if we register prostitutes then we can at least licence them and enforce health checks. Don?t ask me how we?d monitor the amount of clients ? water meters, electric meters, vagina meters whatever.

Then there are different types of prostitution ? from the street walker to the high class call girl. A call girl must see a more wealthy type of client ? but does that equate to better treatment and a safer environment?

Bear in mind I?m coming from a point of zero experience with the world of prostitution and have no fixed view ? can you offer any thoughts to help me get off the fence?

Well it wouldnt be the Worlds oldest profession if there wasnt a need for it, therefore working girls should be afforded the same rights and protection as any other person, but of course in reality that will never happen.

Personally I think it should be legalised in some form or other. Maybe some sort of licensed premises with security and a safe environment.

Hey!!

I am the same as you really,on the fence about the issue. As a result i was going too leave to others to voice what ever strongly held views they hol. That was untill I looked on the BBC 24 news website a moment ago and saw two Prostitues have been murdered in Ipswich. Here in the Midlands over the year there have been alot of Street girls go missing and turn up at the bottom of a hedge some where over the last few years.

The sad truth is they are easy pray for murderers becuase of the way they have too work i.e on the streets out side of the law. So what is the answer? Amsterdam style girls in windows? Massage parlours? I dont know. The links between the sex trade and organised crime are well known. So what does that leave us with? Goverment controlled and taxed knocking shops? Well maybe, safer for the girls remove links with oranized crime and people traffiking maybe even keep the girls drug free.

But can you see any goverment having the balls to introduce such a thing? Can you imagine the public reaction in your area if you were going to have a goverment brothel on your road? The truth is it will stay as it is for ever. 19 year old girls going missing and being murdered and criminals getting rich whilst it is happening.

Cheers

Prostitutes deserve respect and fair treatment as they attempt to make a living the best way they know how - just like the rest of us.

Those that are forced into it or do it from necessity, obviously need help and support not condemnation from God-botherers.

Sadly we still have the Victorian Stigma attached.

If these girls were not available for the blokes walking around witht their balls ready to explode then it wouldnt be so safe for the so called respectable women in our society, and that is why society tolerates prostitutes but these girls do need more protection, remember the Yorkshire Ripper.

Technically it is legal, its just everything that goes with it such as soliciting, two girls sharing a place for safety, etc isn't.
