?Had pornographers regularly thought about making erotica with a script, decent lighting, good sound and a plausible scenario, in other words had they made something more interesting than watching a bacon slicer or something that didn't look like an assault??

Hey, I reckon you may be onto something here, Keith.

Sadly, today's porno (certainly American and British) seems to be created exclusively by, and for, hormone crazed sex addicts, closet pedophiles and the green walled bed-sit mob. These rampant (and frequently oafish) pervys don?t give a shit about class, sophistication, eroticism or quality of any kind. The just want 'meat'. Their only stipulation is that it is ostensibly female meat and of a young or recent vintage. That it may be low quality, stringy, and devoid of any intellectual of physical body doesn't seem to matter one iota to chortling Fred Pervy. Poor old Joe Ordinary doesn't get a look in nowadays - not that he's bothered. He's to busy getting a life.

But I?m not simply blaming porno people, here. This is all part and parcel of the wider cultural and social changes that have overtaken British society (and western society in general) over the past fifteen years. Maybe we?ll talk about this in more detail later, in a new thread?

?If Officer D. had watched one of those 'History of Pornography' documentaries you can see on Channel 5 then you will regularly hear somebody say that porn has done a lot to help the feminist cause because it is empowering to the woman, they are at the focus of what the production is about and in a sense in control.?

Yes, I am aware of some intelligent, rational, middleclass women acknowledging the benefits of porn and wholly accepting and celebrating our common (men and women?s) sexual nature. But they are not taken seriously by the media or politicians and get very little recognition or publicity - as this would tend to neutralize the prevailing middleclass orthodoxy that porn ?demeans wimmin? and all men are rapists.

But together we can make a difference. We must challenge our poncy, elitist, rulers. Tell them to fuck off and leave out all the ?wimmin are victims? bollocks. Tell them to stop being sniffy and hypercritical about sex. Tell them that we want quality sex and that they, as a matter of government policy, should promote quality eroticism - while kicking into touch the chortling oafs, chavy chavers, and lay-by losers who, sadly it would seem, are the base ingredients of contemporary British fuck-flicks. Send out a message that we will no longer allow these divvys and nomarks to drag British, society, culture, and porn through the gutter. Yes, t?fuck wiv? ?em! Waddaya say, Keith?

Couldn't agree more, Alice. In fact the ONLY American porn that you'll ever catch me watching is the "Golden Age" stuff from the late 70s / early 80s with Seka, Juliet Anderson, Rhonda Jo Petty, Little Oral Annie, Desiree Cousteau et al - REAL women, dressed sexily in stockings & suspenders and at least looking like they're enjoying themselves and often in "real-world" type situations.

Even those flicks were plagued (at times) by things like poor lighting and excessively long, zoomed-in shots of just genitals, but still they were far superior to most of the Barbie Doll circus-act stuff of today.

Interestingly, as a feminist, I haven't noticed any feminists in power at the moment. Nor any laws being made that prioritised women's rights. I'd like to know who or what you're refering to.

The feminist war on porn is largely over. You're looking at the wrong scapegoat this time.

Well when you get this type of thing

And this

And then SWAP (Scottish Women Against Porn) who petitioned MSPs to make porn a hate crime in Scotland.

It's easy to see where all this comes from.

I'm actually a feminist who works in porn. And I like it, yeh.

Dworkin is dead. A lot of feminists have a problem with her writings as well.

The reason for this and for the Music of Black Origin awards and so on is because our society is dominated by white men.
If you look at mainstream, non-specific music awards for example, the majority of them are won by white artists. Or the Oscars for example...there's a reason why it was such a big deal that Halle Berry won a year or two ago.

For minorities to get recognition they create their own awards, or have their own ministers.
Our government has done very little for women's rights, I don't think having a Minister for Women is going to change much tbh.

Also, gaining more equality for women or people of colour does not mean taking away rights from anyone else.
So why do you find this such a problem?

There's no straight pride march because straight couples have the right to marry and can express their sexuality in public without fear of getting attacked, amongst other things.

I've never seen these sites before.
I think it's pretty obvious it's a minority.

Obviously I have no problem with men using porn, I wouldn't be on these boards or in the job I am if I did.
I do have a problem with anyone, no matter how good their intentions, making other people feel bad or threatened because of their sexual preferences, which is exactly what The Porn Detective seems to be doing.

Yes, anti-porn feminists exist. But they by no means represent all feminists (neither do I btw) and they by no means are 'in control'

There's barely any women in charge of this country, feminist or otherwise.
