She has served her time after 24 years.
Isn't it strange that Bader Mienhoff and associated terrorist groups like Brigade Rosso (The Italian group that kidnapped and killed Italian politician Aldo Moro) are frowned upon for their cause, and yet Nelson Mandela was a terrorist who was sentenced for his 'cause' and is feted as a freedom fighter and subsequently, a hero

The West London of my youth is now on dvd

the anc and mandela never murdered anyone thats the big difference, they were being oppressed by a white supremacy government, these people who are being released have never been oppressed and have never shown any remorse for what they have done, never said sorry either to the victims family, so you think that 24 years is a just sentence for someone who is responsible for the deaths of 9 people life should mean life i'm sorry if that is an old fashioned idea.

I heard of Red Brigade, don't know a lot about them but I do agree with you on Nelson Mandela. He was fighting a just cause.

Yeah, but it wasn't that long ago that the right in this country equated Mandela with terrorism because he was convicted of crimes against their apartheid friends. While many in this country were calling for his release, any snot-nosed Tory could be assured of a standing ovation at the party conference by saying he should be hung.

Changed days indeed.

I was living in Germany at the time. Bader Meinhoff (Red Army Faction) were causing a great deal of fear & damage throughout the country. Wanted posters were plastered everywhere. Their actions seemingly totally random & indiscriminate. Those members still (living) held in prison have never shown any contrition/remorse for their actions. In fact they still virulently argue that they were/are correct. They all represent a danger to the public even now. For this reason alone should remain behind bars forever.

Germany is a democracy. Baader, Meinhoff and their gang could have stood for parliament if they wanted a change.
In South Africa only the whites could vote. So standing for parliament was no option for Mandela.
Quite a difference, isn't it?

So, if you're not allowed to vote, it is reasonable to adopt urban guerilla methods in seeking change?

Hmm......better not tell the kids, folks.

Well Dutchman,
Like many of your countrymen you believe that the UK has a political system open to all. I lived in Holland in Amsterdam, for nearly six years and it was the first time that I bothered to vote as an adult. As a teen I followed my father and voted Tory.

What you are saying is that in Germany anyone can stand for parliament. In the UK one has to put up a considerable amount of money to stand. As we do not have PR then small parties, even popular minorities, such as the Greens, stand no chance because they cannot run an election without enormous finances.

If you ever stand it is the "first past the post system" where a party can be elected with a big majority, with more people voting against it such as in the last election when Big Brother Tony got in.

Do you mean that the Baader Meinhof could have afforded
to stand and have political broadcasts and so on in Germany. After all there is no doubt in the fact that they have very sincere political beliefs and that their ranks included academics and political philosophers.

A true democracy is where all are given a voice and the purpose of it is to avoid extra party extremism.

Mike Freeman.
