The day a genuine talent was lost. Always distinctive, and some of his work - for The Innocents and The Elephant Man to name but two - was truly superb.

A sad loss indeed.

He was the cinematographer of David Lynch's Dune, which was a remarkable looking film whatever you think of it (I love it personally) and also on one of my favourites that is almost forgotten now the chilling "Night must fall" starring a very young Albert Finney as a serial killer long before they were fashionable. He will be missed.

Yes that's the one. That was a really creepy film and for people who only know Albert Finney as an old guy it shows what a powerful actor he was. The camerwork of Francis is top notch.
