Serious art question....kinda

Post by BeestonBoy »

Hey

Ok years ago i heard a tale that a version of "The Mona Lisa" Painted by Magritte was hung in the Louvre for several years whilst the original was being restored. Now the tale was told by Rob Newnam so it could well be bollocks. I cant find any other reference's to this story any where. By any chance does any one know if its true?

Having spent some time studying Magritte's work I cant believe for a second that it is. But if any one happens to know....

Now that is a serious question, beats all that Babestation bollocks. My favourite artist of all time is Caravaggio.
Sorry though, I haven't a f******g clue about the answer unfortunately..

I read that it was replaced with a fake in about 1910 as security was non-existant in those days, just some old fogey sitting in a chair next to it.
It was supposed to be into hiding during WW2 from the art loving nazi's, but I do believe that the one on display with all the fancy electronic security IS the genuine one.
But that didn't save Munch's 'The Scream' did it?

Artists? I have always liked Hieronymus Bosch and his visions and toments of Hell

The 'Mona Lisa' by Magritte wasn't painted until 1962. On the other hand, the 'Mona Lisa' by da Vinci was removed from the Louvre during the war, kept in a variety of places, before ending up in the Ingres Museum, Montauban.

I can admire Bosch's work, but I wouldn't have wanted his nightmares.
