Fact is, he was a barrister for about 8 years before he got elected to Parliament, at which point he dropped the law. He can't have had much commitment to it, and everything I have read about him implies he was no great shakes as a lawyer. For my money he's not much better when it comes to making laws either. It's amazing how far a cheesy grin will get you.

Many barrister MPs continue to practise the law, Tone dropped it like a hot potato. It was just a means to an end for him. That's not really a criticism, but he was no great shakes as a lawyer, and had no real commitment to a legal career. Indeed, something he only did for 8 years hardly counts as a career.
"I think he's part of the Executive now, NOT the Legislature, so he shouldn't really be making laws at all! Although with our quaint political system, I suppose he does get to vote on laws, when he attends votes (very rarely)."
Dream on mate. Under our system he effectively has the powers of a mediaeval king, there is no real separation of powers. All laws come from Number Ten.
