Techie help needed....

Post by Tez »

I went out today and bought a cheap webcam, philips spc210nc,i followed all the usual instructional gubins and restarted my computer......

Now when i try and use the webcam,on its own or with msn, skype it starts for about 15 seconds then just crashes the whole thing...

Any thoughts or help required please

Crashes to desktop, blue screen, or just freezes?

I would have said it's a driver problem at first, but you say it runs fine for 15 minutes before crashing.

Maybe it's an overheating problem, or you don't have enough ram?

Try uninstalling the webcam and find something else that's pretty intensive to run............like a dvd. If the dvd crashes your pc I'd guess it's over heating somewhere. You may need a new cpu fan. (dunno if you've got a desktop or laptop).

If the dvd runs fine and it's just the webcam, it may be that it's eating up your ram in some way. You may need more ram (dunno how much you've got, nor the cpu speed, nor your operating system).

Go watch a dvd.......

15 seconds? Ok, I thought you said 15 minutes for some reason........maybe I need glasses.....

Anyway, try the latest drivers for your pc. Mainly chipset drivers for the motherboard, and graphics drivers.

Then install the latest drivers for your webcam. I don't know what operating system you're using but they're all Here.

It's probably a driver conflict somewhere....

Driver problem is apparently more likely if you are using Vista.
