I'm old-fashioned enough to believe that divorce is [or should be] the
last , wholly regrettable, resort after all other avenues of reconciliation
have been explored and found inadequate.
We haven't reached that stage yet- and I hope we never do.

I think he is too.
There might be a place on this Forum for a reasoned debate on Scottish governance. But probably not on this thread.

Right,
What an awful night + guts ache + hangover.
I quite admire your "wikifest" (can we get that in the next Oxford English Dictionary Edition? - if enough people start using it, it will be! "wikifest", you heard it here first!).
All that to prove a point was in vain I'm afraid; you see, you made the wrong point. My reply regarding Newton wasn't to chip in with an English inventor, -his biggest contributions were 'discoveries & theories' not 'inventions' anyway- but to chip in with a quote from Newton regarding his success.
'Pigmaei gigantum humeris impositi plusquam ipsi gigantes vident'
'If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.' (not sure if the translation is perfect - you could wiki it....arf arf)
The quote was to show that any invention is always due to the inventors predecessors. The 'inventor' is always the person that just fits the final piece into the jigsaw.
Again, remember the word - "wikifest". I invented it, but must thank everybody who contributed to the Anglo/Germanic languages that made my invention possible.
