Lord Justice Sedley - DNA Samples

Did you see that news article last week where appeal court judge, 'Lord' Justice Sedley, reckoned that instead of just taking DNA samples from criminals and suspects (people under arrest) samples should be taken from everyone on British soil, (including visitors). He justified this by saying it would be 'fairer' to everyone. Apparently, the Rt. Hon. Sir Stephen was distraught that a very large proportion of the people that ended up having their DNA sampled (i.e., arrested or convicted) were ethnic sorts - and in particular Afro Caribbean people. Here's a quote from the BBC News website.

"Figures compiled from Home Office statistics and census data show almost 40% of black men have their DNA profile on the database. That compares with 13% of Asian men and 9% of white men."

We then learn that the Rt. Hon. 'Sir' Stephen was a former member of the Communist party... Ahh, so, it all begins to fall into place. Why am I not surprised?

But this episode raises two important questions -

Is 'Lord' Justice Sedley a despicable upper middle-class git in the mould of Blunt, Burgess, Phillby and MaClean? Is he one of those unspeakably arrogant, obnoxious, and indeed sniffy upper-class lefties that have a firm conviction that equality must be universally applied and enforced - amongst the lower orders?

And secondly, is 'Sir' Stephen suggesting that many those ethnic sorts who are arrested on suspicion and who make up a far larger percentage of the prison population that their presence in the wider population would suggest - have been fitted up by the state? Is that what this twat of a judge is suggesting? That they have been wrongly convicted? Because if they have not been wrongly convicted then the only other conclusion one can draw is that these people are simply predisposed to committing crime. Maybe the Right fucking Honorable Comrade 'Sir' Stephen should have kept his underclass trap shut, instead of opening a can of worms that he, of all people, wouldn't want to see wriggling around on the sidewalk.

On the whole I think he's an authoritarian cunt who has no conception of the real world. He wants all visitors to the UK to be DNA tested? What a fucking tool. Apart from destroying our tourist trade, has he bothered to think for one second the chaos this would cause at our airports? The recent ban on liquids on flights almost brought the whole system grinding to a halt. Even processing people quickly, it might take a couple of hours to DNA test one 747 load of people.

The idea is mad, it could only have been thought up by a man who spends all his time in the rareified atmosphere of a courtroom, surrounded by sycophantic barristers who laugh at his jokes and kiss his arse. The man is such a sad fuckwit that he does not even have the common sense to realise what a stupid fucking suggestion this is, just in practical terms, without even looking at the issue of basic freedoms involved. I pity anyone who has a case heard in front of this half-witted tosser, I really do.

There are other more general issue?s surrounding the DNA database. One of them is the suggestion that the Government wants to sample, catalogue, and barcode us all - though it consistently denies this. But that?s cobblers - of course it wants to catalogue us all, which government wouldn?t? Apart from the obvious benefits of catching sleaze balls, pervys and murderers, it would also make it much easier to control us, dictate to us, spy on us, suppress dissent, and to take our money off us to spend on their own public sector pensions and other thoroughly undeserving causes.

I?m in two minds about the DNA database ? yes, it would be great for catching creeps and scumbags. But it could just as easily (and will be) used to oppress us. There?s no point in discussing whether we should all be on the DNA database ? because that?s inevitable. If not this year, then maybe in five, ten, or fifteen years. So are you worried about your diminishing freedom and curbs on your individuality? Unless you?re the most pliant, apathetic (pathetic) sheep-like individual, it?ll be no good thinking ?it won?t affect me?, because it will. It?s only recently that the government has been trampling on the freedoms of smokers, hunters and comedians, (Religious Hatred bollocks). How long will it be before they come after you?

Pondering this issue put me in mind off Patrick McGoohan in ?The Prisoner? ? ?I am not a number!?

It could be that we are all numbers, Off D. One day they will discover there is a mathematical equation that constitutes everything you are, and I am.

As for DNA, yeah, the naive part of me says it's a good thing---catch scumbags who commit crimes. But we can never be sure of the intentions of the people responsible for the technology. So I'm with you on the wariness aspect.

All that has happened is that new legislation has been introduced to ban smoking in confined public places.

Initial reports have indicated that this has been a good measure as smoking related illness have declined since this ban made it's debut.

I actually think that is a good idea as alcohol abuse/misuse is one of the worst aspects of our society.
