Americans rewriting history

The Patriot

The American film is a great instrument for propaganda and the rewriting of history. I watched Roland Emmerich's The Patriot with anger as the British Army in the American War of Independence committed a massacre when they burnt alive the population of a whole village, including women and children.

The only massacre I ever learnt about was the Boston Massacre of 1770 when the British Army fired on a crowd that was menacing them.

Many gullible people watching The Patriot will believe that the British Army acted in this horrific way. I believe that when directors distort history the credits should include a statement that incidents, like war crimes, portrayed bear no relation to the historical facts.

If film directors can make such distortions of history about actual events how can we believe such films as Schindler's List?

I wouldn't worry about it to much Mike.

Just put it down to being a film.

Look at the Great Escape.

Good film but not reality.

We need to get away from this it's on telly so it must be real view but a credit on the end, especially when most don't read them in full, I don't think will achieve much

The historical author, Dr David Starkey was watching that film while returning from America and was so incensed by, basically the lies that shitty film spewed he decided there and then to "do" a series about the American revolution a.s.a.p. and basically tell the real story; and not the crap Mel(I love Jews, honestly) Gibson spouts.
What the Americans really don't like is the fact that "The war of independance" was really a civil war, even Benjamin Franklin and his son were on opposite sides; and to a person, all the African slaves were on the British sides, actively helping the British troops on several occasions.

In the Film "The man who shot Liberty valance", I think it was the newspaper man says "forget the truth, print the legend", or something like that, Hollywood has being doing that for decades.

I admire the American people and I am not anti American but anti directors who attempt to distort history by interweaving real historical events with lies. These lies are believed by the masses and accepted as historical fact.

Braveheart was another example of this.
Mel Gibson did not write the script and is an excellent actor and one cannt blame him for playing his part.

Gibson could have refused to play the part when he first viewed the script on the grounds of historical inaccuracies/falsehoods.
