In all the furore surrounding the Vorderman/Whiteley partnership on the show, the other significant names have been forgotten: Cathy Hytner, the original letters lady, whose on screen personality the Vord partially assimilated (later replaced by Beverley Isherwood, then Karen Loughlin); and the other numbers ladies (the ones who alternated with Carol originally), Yvonne Warberton and Linda Barrett.

Wonder what happened to all them.

25 years CH4 has been broadcasting - how it has changed, for the worse I'd suggest.

I remembered that there used to be a letters girl, but I had forgotten that there was a numbers girl too. Channel 4 sure was keen to spread the joy back then.

The lexicographer was a mousy little thing wasn't she? Sat in her Deirdre Rashid glasses not saying a word, Suzy Dent is a big improvement.

Carol looks a lot better now than she did them. I wonder if she ever saw Countess Dracula? Mind you, where would she find the virgins in Leeds?

I got a shock when I saw the guest was Ted Moult. Once he was on all the shows, and he hasn't really been on any retrospectives since he topped himself. Watching him I couldn't help seeing him in my mind's eye sucking on the barrels of his twelve bore, the poor sod.

What with that and poor old Richard, it was a bit of a downer really, especially when you realise how long ago 1982 was. It seems like yesterday, but in reality it's a fucking long time. Enjoy it while you can people.

There was some article showing Carol 'I'll advertise anything if the price is right' Vorderman sporting some natty trousers from the first show and showing her today with the same trousers, a bust enlargement, fake tan, some botox and hair extentions.
BUT she is so good at maths, she can fit a size 12 into a size 8 dress, and you have to admire that!

The West London of my youth is now on dvd
