The Swiss didn't just bankroll the Nazis they stole huge amounts of Jewish prisoners' gold, stripped from them in the death camps. Don't forget two things: a) major industrialists backed Hitler as the only alternative to the Communists b) Hitler's nationalism was just right for a nation peed off after WW1 and paying war reparations to France. He was just what many thought the doctor to have ordered. Swiss bankers- why are they called the Gnomes of Zurich?- weird little smiles with hands welded to plaster casts?? It's already been mentioned----big German companies, particularly the industrialists whose factories would be under threat from worker unrest, saw in Hitler and the Nazis the perfect solution to Communist infiltration and therefore bankrolled them. And I'm sure they all got a good return from their investment once the armed forces were needing supplied.

Pretty sure there'd have been foreign investment too---from those who thought Europe needed a strong Germany.
