TECH HELP - Front Audio Panel

Post by Snake Diamond »

I've just updated my system into a new Case, & now I can't get the bloody thing to work right.

In the old case, I had the computer speakers, & the Stereo HiFi accessing the Rear Audio connections, with the Headphones & Mic accessing the Front Audio Panel. When I put the Headphone Jack into the front connection, it used to cut out the sound from the Computer Speakers/Stereo HiFi at the back. Now when I do the same on the new case, it still plays on the Computer Speakers, Stereo HiFI, as well as the Headphones, all at the same time.

I know there was a setting you could use, to choose how your audio system would work, but I've gone through the Control Panel/System; Control Panel/Sound and Audio Devices; Control Panel/Speech; I just can't seem to find the option to change it.

Any1 have any ideas???

Look through your motherboard manual. There's usually a jumper on the mainboard that needs setting.

Nope, the manual tells me how to connect or disconnect jumpers to disable the front audio panel from working, but nothing about how to change the way it works, the manual did reckon that if a phone-jack was placed into the headphone socket in the front, it will auto-over-ride the rear panel, but it doesn't.

I even went into the bios, nothing, only 1 option to enable or disable the AC97 Card from being used completely.

Now when I did this ages ago, I know for a fact it was a function done from within windows, not from the Bios or the Motherboard.

There was a window with different options on how you wanted your system setup, & you could choose the option (with accompanying image) to match the setup you were after.

I've been going nuts trying to find this, & I cannot find it anyway.

Go Start, cont panel, sounds, then choose which sound system you want to use, if your using windows, you can mute it and have the sound direct from your sound card, but I think it will only mute when you insert a jack if you use the windows set up, you should also get to choose speakers etc..

No, it's not the sound scheme, it's to do with the Phone Jack, there was somewhere where you could choose how your Headphones was set up, front or rear panel.

When I connect the jack into the front Headphone Socket, it should disable the rear socket, but it is NOT doing that. When the headphone jack is put into the rear socket, it works, when I put it into the from socket, it again works, but the connection on the rear is NOT being disabled from use while the front socket is being used.

I have done the speaker setup already, that is ok, but it's not part of what is the current problem, as such.

Can you disable the rear panal headphone jack? Maybe because the headphone jack at the back is enabled, and not used, that that's the reason why when you use the front jack, the speaker channels still work.

OK, this is how I USED to have the system setup:

Computer Speaker Jack & Stereo HiFI Jack both plugged into a dual connection Jack, in the Rear Audio Socket (Green Socket).

Headphones (with in-Built Mic) Jacks plugged into the Front Audio Socket (Green Socket).

-------

I've transfered EVERYTHING (inc Motherboard) from the OLD Case, into this NEW Case, the only thing that is different, is the CASE & the PSU.

All the cards, HDD, CD/DVD, Floppy Drive, Digi-Card Reader, etc, are ALL connected in this new case IDENTICAL to how they were in the old case, I have just this minute double checked the Front Audio Panel cable, that connects to the socket on the Motherboard, & it is fitted snugly, in the correct way (you can't fit it wrongly, as it's got a blocked pin).

I've setup the Computer Speakers, Stereo HiFi, & the Headphones in the Identical same way, but it is giving me this problem. !annoyed!

I usually listen to the computer (Music or Vids etc) through the Stereo, but if I want to listen to some music or vid & my daughter is in the room wanting to watch TV, I just put the headphone jack in the socket at the front, automatic cancellation of the audio being fed to the Computer Speakers/Stereo HiFi.

I've also just tried some of the options from the link Lizard posted not long ago, & there is an option to display the Front & Rear Speakers in the Volume Control from the Task Bar, but both of them Mute buttons for said same are grayed out, so I can't use that option temporarily either.
