4oD

Any one else bothered with it?

I installed it the othe night and it seems pretty good but not had the chance to play around with it much yet.

I did watch "Mark of Cain" on it the other night, which was pretty good.

Gonna have a mammoth Father Ted and Black books session at the weekend if all goes to plan.

Oh fuck!!!

You have just installed a nasty piece of crap. It is a stealth torrent-style streaming product - once you download a file to your PC, it uses your internet bandwidth to upload it to others and this runs on your machine 24/7.

It uses kservice and khost as used by Sky. Have a Google, it aint good.

I installed it in the summer and thought it was ok at first. I don't like the idea of having to fucking pay for stuff that's already been on tv a few weeks ago, and it's a twat to uninstall. On one 'update' it lost my username and password, and even though I knew them, I still couldn't log in. With the uninstall issues, I couldn't create a new account either.

Because of a new motherboard, cpu, and ram upgrade just before xmas, I did a complete hard-drive format and reinstall of XP. Let's just say 4od won't be on my fecking hard drive anytime soon.

At least iPlayer is free and there's no need to sign up, or install anything if you just want to stream stuff.

I've just become guinea pig for the forum and installed bbc iplayer.

It does indeed use a peer-to-peer network participation to share programmes you download, but it's easy to turn off in the settings.

Basically, you have to trust the BBC.

I've never had any problems with viruses when I've visited the BBC website. It would cause a national outcry if they permitted viruses to gain access to the licence payers' computers.
