You're worse than one late Warren from Scotland, talk about pedantic...
Yawn....
My point is that the survey is a compilation of opinions which have been boiled down to give an average value.
And, on average, the UK is less corrupt than the majority of EU nations. Cheers.
they don't tell you why people gave the answer they did,
Did I say they did? Not once in this debate have I argued why something is/isn't, only what is.
It's perfectly ok to generalise,
Oh, really? Then why say it wasn't ok to generalise about football fans, regarding racism? Yet another contradiction, Barcode.
The UK is a very different place compared to even 25 years ago and a lot of the change in attitudes and values alone have not been exactly positive.
That's a personal opinion. I have already pointed out, to Dibble on another thread, all the positive things that have come about since the 60's (for instance). Want me to point to them again?
it doesn't serve any purpose except to satify the itch of the Little Englander who feels he has to be better than everybody else.
I hope you weren't referring to me here? If you were.....well....how ironic and contradictory, yet again! AGAIN, I never disagreed with the statements about Europe having a better quality of life, or 'better infrastructure', did I? I just pointed out that the UK isn't 'backward' at lots of things.
I don't feel the need to have to feel that I am supremely better than other people,
Neither do I. This cannot be said for your European friends though, can it? I mean, calling a whole nation 'backward' is elitist to the extreme. Yet ANOTHER contradictory remark - since you've backed up their perceptions of the UK and not yet condemned such impolite terminology.
Btw I don't discuss with people who use 'quotes'
I'm sorry, Barcode. How impolite of me to try and clarify points of your argument I disagree with. How 'backward', no? Feel free to stop debating with me at any time - I'll get over it.
You should also try and read what people write,
And you should check on what you yourself have written, because you seem to have a habit of saying something on one post, and then contradicting yourself on another (generalisations for example).
I didn't say the motorist was drunk, he had not been drinking for more than eight hours
Oh, you're a doctor now? Since he was over the legal limit, and with the Europeans not being as 'backward' as the UK, then I trust their laws on judging who's drunk enough to be considered unfit to drive a motor vehicle.
in his case a residual level where you would not even feel or act drunk.
There are different levels of drunkenness. He's either classed as too drunk to drive safely or he isn't. You don't have to feel/act like you've had 15 pints to be classed as drunk. Reaction times deteriorate very quickly with even a low alcohol presence in the bloodstream.
Looking back over this debate (look carefully, Barcode) I didn't start out criticising any nation, nor disagreeing with what you claimed. It seems that you've taken exception for me having the cheek, nay, audacity, to point out that the UK isn't 'backward' at a few things. You wag your finger at me for over simplifying racism within society by looking at sporting events, calling it generalisation, and then say it's ok to generalise (wtf?!). You say official surveys are inaccurate but seem inclined to believe a few European mates' opinions on other nations (wtf?!). You then finish off by condemning 'little Englanders' that think they're better than everyone else, while seeming to agree with your mates when they call the UK 'backward' (wtf?! wtf?! wtf?!).
There are a few more irregularities within your postings, but they are less important to bring up concerning the content we're discussing. Just for you, I've stopped quoting... for now. Call it my 'backward' civility towards a fellow forumite, what? I do hope I've not come across derogatory, or rude, Barcode. Your postings just smack me of complete bias. Forgive me for indulging in a little self-absorbency when judging my own character, but I've seemed more willing to accept certain things you say as true, I mean, they have to be! You, on the other hand, seem too reluctant to concur with anything that goes against this preconception you have about the UK (or at least your elitist Euro friends' preconceptions).
I am inclined to, and will indulge myself in a little assumption (or is it a presumption?) of my own here; a preconception of your character, if I may?
I'm presuming that if you got smacked in a kebab shop, for looking at someone funny, you'd be inclined to use this as something to solidify your belief in the Uk being more violent. I'm also presuming that if you hear 3000 monkey chants at the next Serie A game, you'd be of the inclination to dismiss it as just a minority.
I could never know, of course, but I indulged all the same. !pleased!
Oh, and what your friends said about the French: How rude.
Yawn....

"There are a few more irregularities within your postings"
Actually there are lots of irregularities in 'Barcode?s' postings. The poor chap doesn?t seem to know whether he's coming or going. All we can be certain of is that he hates Britain and British society - i.e. all of us. He's an apologist for Islam and Iran (even though they'd string him up by the balls for taking an interest in pornography). He's contemptuous of chavs and pikeys and (bizarrely) contemptuous of other people who take a similar stance on the British underclass. He hates the aristocracy and anyone who he perceives to be his social superiors - presumably because they have snubbed him, excluded him, or embarrassed him at some point. And in his spare time he likes to trawl chavy networking sites looking for teenies with big titties!
All in all I reckon he'd prove to be a fascinating case for our resident psychoanalyst - you know, that 'Biscuit Barrel' geezer.

Re: Broon?s Britain - More Callous Killers
Er I'm not sure people being killed is anything to do with Gordon Brown being the current prime minister Dibbs.
I mean it could have easily happened under Tories
