Freesat is a new TV service from the BBC and ITV, launched today, 6th May 2008.
It comes in via a satellite dish, and is sent out in HIGH DEFINITION.
There is a one-off cost for the equipment, but NO ongoing monthly charge.
It can use an existing Sky dish.
This is an attempt by the BBC and ITV to break the stranglehold of Sky.

Re: Freesat - FREE TV service from BBC/ITV launche
A complete Joke, Im a Sky HD Subscriber and why the hell it isnt avalible on sky is a joke. Apart from having 500,000 Sky Hd Subscribers as well as 9 Million Regular Subscribers how do they think they will atrract Customers. ITV is a joke period, just like Ondigital was a joke. If there Normal SD Pictures are anything to go by they havent a chance.

I might be wrong but isn't crap in high def still crap?
Re: Freesat - FREE TV service from BBC/ITV launche
It all sounds wonderful - but it'll be showing the same crap produced by the BBC, ITV and CH4, etc. Irrespective of how many pixels you get on screen with high definition, I still won't bother.

Oh err missus, looks like the Mrs. Doubtfire Trio have boarded the O/T Forum.!wink!
The point of the new freesat service is to allow people who are not able to access freeview to still be able to take the Freesat option once the Analogue Signal is switched OFF (starting soon). The whole point of offering a HD service is that investing in a flat panel HD LCD TV is pretty pointless unless you have SKY HD, Blu Ray, HD DVD or PS3/Xbox 360 because it will still be SD you are watching on yer shinny new LCD. If freeview does go down the HD route you will all need to invest in new kit to be able to receive it cos the current freeview boxes/TV's/PVR's etc are not up to the job ... so get saving!!

PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?
