Fat eric,

Please explain this theory.

" you really need to take the issue up with the Chinese and the Indians first and foremost."
There are many valid reasons (and I'm NOT talking about short school runs in 4x4s) why - for many people - giving up a car is simply not an option, even if they wanted to.
The country had more rural areas 60 years ago than it does now, no big supermarkets making customs travel further, and yet had less cars on the road.

Why are there more valid reasons today than there were then?

Simple: Meaning that the massive (and increasing) demand for oil on the part of these two countries is (arguably) the main single factor behind rising oil prices - not the petrol consumption of English suburban mums driving their little cherubs to school (unnecessary and wasteful though that may be in many cases).

We can't dictate to developing nations about oil when our supposed developed' nations are to fat & idle to be a good example to them.

But we could prevent other nations from developing and wasting resources. No investment into 3rd world countries means they will never develop and not come back to bite us in the ass. China heavily subsidises the cost of oil and petrol for their own population in order to keep the economy moving - this gives them no desire to curb their usage whatsoever.

You mean keeping certain nations in a 3rd word state; keeping them uneducated and unenlightened is good for the world......just so we can keep the status quo of 18 stone mothers driving their lazy chubby kids to school in 4x4's?

Seriously, are you some sort of globalised fascist that wants to control the rate of development in all countries so as to keep your own cushy lifestyle? Incase you haven't noticed, these nations are developing themselves, whether you like it or not.

I reiterate: It's about setting an example, not starving them into submission!

mate of mine drives a fuel tanker.hes based at thurrock and delivers fuel for tesco.
He's hearing fuel will be ?2 per litre by xmas.

I am for a fuel protest aswell.but its got to be longer than the last one.
the last one was really starting to bite towards the end then it ended.
If it had gone on for another 2 weeks then it would really have made a difference.

Mind you we all may say lets have another protest but dont forget it will bring out the worst in us.I remember the behavour of people last time, fights on forecourts, road rage, fuel hoarding and the jet garage at dagenham east one bloke got stabbed and I think died.
