Halifax/HBOS merge. No more Howard in the TV ads?

Post by max_tranmere »

Channel 4 news said this lunchtime that it was odd that the Halifax ads, featuring Howard and co, were still being run this morning. It looks like they won't be on much longer as the Halifax now doesn't exist like it used to. How will that nation cope without Howard on our TV screens? Lol.

I got a shock and a half the other night as I went to my Websaver account at the Halifax, to move all my lolly out, only to find a note saying "Account closed". I nearly had a fucking heart attack.

The following day, I discovered that that stupid Howard had accidentally, opened an account for me then closed it at the same time as hiding my proper account..............Well that was their story. mmm

The safest Bank to have your money in at the moment is Northern Rock as it has full goverment backing.

Northern Rock

Quite right Max. The other thing that people need to remember is that the Government's compensation scheme only covers ?35,000 per financial institution, not per bank or per account. So if you have an account with Lloyds TSB and one with the Cheltenham and Gloucester they'll only be covered to a total of ?35K as they are parts of the same institution.

I imagine that the same will apply to Lloyds/ HBOS - which includes Sainsburys Bank.

Money in the Northern Rock is 100% backed by government funds...

Not really correct, because Lloyds TSB HBOS is now so huge that no government would ever allow it to go under. If it got into trouble, any government would have to bail it out no matter what.
