DV to USB?

I have just purchased a new laptop. It looked the same as my old Asus laptop but when I looked for the DV in it did not have one. I am wondering how I download my videos into my computer? Is there such a cable as DV to USB? In the past it has been easy using DV to DV known as the Sony Firewire.
I would be grateful for any information.

Do you mean that you have a DV cable to USB for downloading video to your computer?

I've got a cable that came with the camcorder, it goes from DV to USB. So you must be able to buy them.

yes thats what I mean.
When I got my mini Dv camera it didnt come with one.
so I just looked up the camera on ebay then did a search and found a cable.
all I do is connect it up and windows media centre opens and I can then download to my computer.

Just had a look at my camera and the output is a mini usb socket, so any mini-usb to usb cable works. Any cable that comes with an mp3 player is of this type and should work - I've just tried one I got from Poundland, a Philips retractable mini usb, and that works as well.

How ironic, tried to record something to test it out - it's a 4yo JVC DX28 and virtually never used ---- and the thing's broken. It'll play back ok, but thinks the lens cap is on all the time when trying to record, the screen is full of green/yellow/blue streaks.

JonnyHungwell is now saying that he is using a mini US to USB please check your cable and confirm that it is USB to USB.
