In Switzerland last weekend, great skiing so early in the season .....
Having a coffee i got chatting to a UK tax adviser and he said the following:
Britain had the largest tax revenues ever over the last 10 years, mainly driven by the global financial markets most based in London. On top of that UK businesses generated more tax than ever before, the housing market generated massive stamp duty incomes and the pension raids and wind fall tax's all added to the pot !
No other country in europe had that incredible amount of income....BUT NOW the UK is tipped to be hit the hardest by the recession !.......reason ...the government still spent far more than was coming in and "never belivered it would end"
Its very sad that our kids and their kids are never going to have the benefits from the last 10 years apart from higher tax bills. ( & don't forget they will also have to pay the new leases on the hospitals, schools etc. that are owned in the private sector)
where has all the tax money gone?
where has all the tax money gone?
Proud to be Von Boy
Re: where has all the tax money gone?
I've seen the details of the schemes the Tories want to scrap.
This country will be a wreck if they do- and thank God the Scots will be immune and quite possibly the Welsh as well.

Re: where has all the tax money gone?
Its gone on the 1.3 million public sector non-jobs created by labour, and the generous pensions that go with it. Its gone on the costs of EU membership. Its gone on the huge mounts of scrounger money paid out to the workshy, and paying the breeders to keep squeezing out kids as a career option. Its gone on asylum seekers, and providing a safe haven for the worlds terrorists, because they all have 'human rights'.
It gets wasted on fancy projects and initiatives, rather than being spent where its needed.

That has answered the original question to perfection.

Apparently the Welfare State costs about ?1billion every three days (about ?350million a day). The National Health Service costs the same again. So just on dole, single mums, pensions, health care and so on, the Government spends ONE BILLION QUID every day and a half!! Think about that over a year!!

Re: where has all the tax money gone?
It's only valid to say that it's because the Government spends money on a certain thing it can not fund something else, if it's the same amount of money being spent. This might seem like an obvious comment but so many people don't seem to get that. The amount spent by Government in certain areas is very small, and certainly can not be used as a reason why another area, which would cost serious money to make work properly, is not working right.
I remember the endless complaints from people about the money the Government spent on the Millenium Dome 8 or 9 years ago. People kept saying: "what a waste, all that money which could have been spent putting right the Health Service". If you read my last entry, which mentions how much the NHS and the Welfare State cost, it's as silly as saying "if a man hadn't wasted his money on that new kettle or toaster, he could have built an extension on his house and had a swimming pool installed in his garden". It makes no sense. So many people don't have a grasp of the sort of figures involved when making these comments and comparisons.

I have it all you bastards and you aint getting a Penny ... does that answer the OP's question satisfactorily??!wink!
PEOPLE think Stephen Hawking is so clever, but when you ask him a question and he is typing in the answer on his little screen, how do we know he isn't just looking up the answer on the Internet?
Re: where has all the tax money gone?
Although Peter's explanation seemed perfectly valid at the time, I must now withdraw my support for it, in the light of crofter's confession.
