I have no problem with them doing an "all black" (or all Chinese or all Asain or all Spanish) edition of Eastenders.

What I object to is the BBC making such a fuss about it.

All sorts of people write books, but every year many local libraries have a "Black writers" month.

Why?

Why not a tall writers month, a disabled writers month, a redhead writers month.

Having a "black" anything is just racist.

The only time i can ever recall soaps accurately portraying life was the first 5 years of brookside and the first 15 years of coronation street, all soaps these days are a million miles from reality.

Guilbert, I raised this very subject once with a former work colleague of mine who was second-generation West Indian. I mentioned the inconstitencies of how there is The Voice newspaper (a black paper) yet there is no whites-only newspaper and if there was everyone would go crazy. He said he understood what I was saying but said "you could not even imagine what it is like to be black and to live in this country for even one day!" He then repeated himself "I mean it: for even one day, you could not imagine what it is like to be black and live in this country. There is racism everywhere". He went on to mention several things that had happened to him that day. He carried on by explaining that with the huge amounts of exclusion and bad treatment it has forced black people to have their own thing as they are left out of most other things. Hence, a black newspaper, black music scene, etc. I'm not saying this is right or wrong, but that is how he explained it.

A bit like being a hard working, law abiding, tax paying, smoker/drinker/motorist in nulabour's Britain then.
