I thought that the main country that these phishing scams come from is Nigeria. The lastest sick scam, was on the BBC News 24 the other night, where a Nigerian had copied a charity letterhead, I think it was the Red Cross and was trying to scam money for the Haiti earthquake appeal. The BBC reporter tried chasing after the firlthy scumbag, but he got away.

Jimslip is right. These are known as Nigerian scams (or 419 scams). There are websites devoted to these, where they make fun of the people doing these scams, and some even attempt to scam the scammers.


Those letters are pretty hilarious, but they're also pretty scary. Some people actually fall for that shit. By "some people" we're talking about hundreds of millions of pounds lost in over a decade.
There's actually been a few deaths with these scams too, as some people have travelled to Nigeria to manually collect their money from that nigerian royal family member, and ...

i see them down at my local library,drafting up the very same emails .. Had to laugh the other day ..You get a 12 digit ID and use your DOB to log in.This immaculately turned out Nigerianwho spoke purfect English,and understood purefect English,couldnt log on ..as the library staff said" the computer shows your DOB has been entered incorrectly,so just try again..." After numerous, further failed attempts she says,"let me do it for you...WHATS your DOB"...and the guy coulnt tell her...Imagine,you cant recall your own DOB?.... Exit of scoundrel from library,lol x
