I had a couple of nights in Dubai last year....

stayed in one the the posh hotels on the beach... they had "managers" going around checking there was not female topless sunbathing... one of my collegues had slipped her WW top off and was laying nearby...NOT walking around etc.... she go pulled up and told to cover up!...

Outside the hotel females dare not go without their arms and legs covered up...

I think Dubai would be nice to visit. I must say the ultra-conservative attitudes that exist there are likely to be unknown by many western visitors and it is worrying that unaware people could get jailed for doing something they were not aware was against the rules. I imagine alcohol is illegal there, just like snogging in public is. Apparently a British couple were nicked for bonking on a beach recently too!

I was there quite often in the 70's. You were allowed to drink in the hotels though it was very expensive. There was a merchant navy club/mission where the beer was fairly cheap.
I thought Dubai was a dump though I dare say it has improved a lot since then. Some of the locals had the disgusting habit of spitting at your feet as you passed for some reason known only to themselves.
It was a bit basic back then. There would be a big new first class hotel and right next door there was a tin shack with a camel tied up out front.
I wouldn't go back if you paid me.

Somebody did that to me I'd take my shoe off and wipe it on his face. Its plainly obvious they dont like you and probably think of your white skin as "infidel american"

A habit that is very common in Britain today, sadly. Everywhere you go in London young men of all races are spitting in the street with little regard to how close others may be to them. How much longer before we see the return of TB thanks to this delightful habit?

British and European people who work/live in these Muslim countries should be fully aware of the strict laws that apply. If they break the Muslim law then they should face the punishment. The Brits who work there are perfectly happy to accept the tax free income, therefore they should accept the Muslim law. - they can't have it both ways.

Similarly, if someone from UAE worked or lived in the UK, then they should accept our laws, conventions and the way we do things here such as, for example; women not having to be covered up from head to foot, women walking around in mini-skirts, lap-dancing clubs, etc.

And another thing I didn't see a single Xmas tree this year anywhere. As for anybody dressed up like Santa, not a chance.

And personally, I'm sick to death with having to do without any food and drink for weeks on end every year. Why should I have to bend over backwards and adhere to Ramadan, just because followers of Islam do? And then if I don't do it, I would be called racist, I bet!

Its not right, you know! But if I go to Dubai, are they necking WKD in the street to make me feel at home? Are they having a piss in the street on a Friday night? No they aren't. If I want to shag the missus down an alley, are they appreciative? No, they are not. Racist they are. Racist!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not racist myself you understand. Some of my best friends are a funny colour. But those Dubai geezers are definitely racist. They make no effort at all to welcome foreign people doing foreign things.
