Do not bother. It is the worst thing I ever purchased. It faster than ISDN when it works, but that is the whole thing, when it works. Telewest is alot better...Do not touch BT or any of the resellers:
Demon, Clara Net plus a ton of others...ask first then buy if they say they resell BT Openworld Broadband forget it.
Magoo you could probably connect quicker than me at the moment on your dial up.
o/t BT Open World Broadband
Re: o/t BT Open World Broadband
I use Freeserve/BT Broadband, with no probs.
At ?29.99 a month, it's not the cheapest..........but when I bollock them after the (only) occasional cock-up, they get back to me IMMEDIATELY.

Re: o/t BT Open World Broadband
So who is the best BB provider? I fancied NTL because I could get the cable TV also. But they said they did not cable my street only nearby streets. They said they are not expanding thier system ie no more areas re going to be cabled. BT was my second choice but is ?30 per month reasonable?
I must admit this dial up is faster than previos ones I have had such as freeserve and BT Connect (business version).

Re: o/t BT Open World Broadband
Which one are you using Magoo? I just swopped my personal provider to "every little helps" it,s a lot more reliable than peeserve, but you need to tweak the dialler to stop it popping up for air every 5 mins, I would recommend it to 56kers, and all reptiles worldwide.
Re: o/t BT Open World Broadband
I have had broadband from BT for about a year and half, and apart from the occassional problem it has worked fine.
I know others who have had the offerings from Telewest and they have complained about them, so I guess it is just unlucky that you have had a bad installation.
Also, about the only times we had any problems with the connection it turned out to be a faulty ADSL modem, and not really BT's fault!!
Cheers

Re: o/t BT /there are cheaper ways
I'm thinking about broadband and this lead me to two very cheap outfits. They both resell btopenworld (I think}.
Look at these prices etgloabal solutions ?22.45 and fairadsl at ?18.99 both monthly and you only have to sign up for 3 months, not the whole year like Bt asks you too.
Hope this helps anyone thinking of broadband i'll let you know which one i pick and how good they are.

Re: o/t BT /there are cheaper ways
I think it maybe the area that you are in. I am in Weybridge in Surrey which is notorious for shit telecoms - forget about trying to use mobiles in my house.
Personally I am going to try Nynex. I believe they are a company that is local to me and may offer a better service.

Re: o/t BT /there are cheaper ways
had no probs with openworld myself - and its plenty fast!
Re: o/t BT /there are cheaper ways
my bro has used BT bb for about a year and not had any problems, pipex are the best to use, they offer 256k, 512k, 1mb and 2mb (if you can afford it, not that u really need a connection that fast) and from the people i know that use it they have not had any problems with them. now all i need is for my local telephone exchange to enable it out here in the stix, hmm we need to fix the well first tho....
