Help on movie format for website

Hello everyone, got a slight problem with my movies. I am using a hdv mg70 jvc camcorder and the quality is very good. I am using adobe premier as my editing program however I can not find a good setting to convert my movies into. The quality is always bad and grainy. Can anyone recommend a decent setting for either mpeg1 or wmv format. I just can't find the right setting. I have to go into advanced settings and mess around with all the bits as the preset settings are either too big or too small for download and quality.

Here's what I use as a friend told me.. It may not be what everyone else uses but it's a start

Video settings
MPEG 1
Screen: 352 x 288
Data Rate: 1150 kbits/sec

Audio settings
Sample: 44.1 Khz
Data rate: 224 kbits/sec

If that helps... I use Pinnacle .....

We have had loads of problems getting a decent output for the web with Premiere. We are now using the Xvid codec but cannot get anything with this codec output via Premiere.

However, we are getting good results with Xvid outputting via Sony Vegas.

Thanks for the replies, Joe I tried what you said and it went all blotchy, I think it is just adbe premier that is the problem.

Paul I downloaded sony vegas but it would not let me import my mod movie file without buying the full version, I just can't seem to get a decent wmv or mpeg out of the original movie no matter how many different settings I use.

I suppose I will have to just fork out for sony vegas which is a shame as I have really adapted well to adobe premier editing.

Here's some old Premiere settings i used to used for free trailers so you may want to increase kbps for better quality:
If you have a dedicated card in your machine, use its own export settings as there way more flexible.

Would help if you stated what frame sizes you were hoping to encode your movies to and what file sizes you were looking for.

I use canopus procoder 2, not the cheapest by a long shot but definately one of, if not, the best editing software around. Will do basically everything you need and produce top quality results.

Thats a good question about the frame sizes, I do not know, this is my first website, so whats the standard? I am looking for around 8mb per 2 minutes of film I suppose. Thats just a rough estimate. Thanks Matt for the specifics but for some reason when I copied your picture then put the kbps up a bit it was still bad quality.

Im finding this so stressful. I keep on trying all of these different editors but the demo's do not allow me to import the movie without buying the full package except adobe premier. I might have to spend thousands just to try these programs and see what is best for me.

Im basicly screwed (another big hurdle to get over)

if you want to play around with wmv why not do it through wm encoder, it is free take a small clip and try different settings until you find the one for you.!thumbsup!
